Tips on How to Be a Successful V.A. while in School

Time management is key. Balancing a new job and college can be challenging, but it’s important to prioritize your time and create a schedule that works for you. What helped me was to set aside dedicated study time and communicate my availability with my employer. Having a daily schedule to break up my time between school and work was crucial to keep my grades up and staying on top of tasks at work.

Utilizing all available resources is also something that helps. Many colleges offer resources such as tutoring, study groups, and academic advisors. I routinely take advantage of these resources to help myself succeed in coursework, and some prove to be useful while working as well.

Staying organized is very important, especially if your job and school work is online. Linking your personal calendar with your work calendar is a helpful way to see what your day looks like for both commitments clearly. Keeping track of important deadlines, assignments, and work schedules is essential to avoid conflicts or missed opportunities. If digital calendars aren’t for you, try a physical planner, or classic pen and paper.

Taking time for yourself is especially important. Practicing self-care will help to avoid burnout. Make sure to take breaks, exercise, and maintain a healthy work and school-life balance.

Staying motivated is an important aspect to focus on. You will have struggles, but it is important to remember why you decided to pursue both a job and a college education.

Seeking support when needed is crucial. Don’t be afraid to contact friends, family, or colleagues for support. Having a strong support system can make all the difference in managing the demands of work and college.
